| left shredded cheese out overnight - throw away? | Forum Index » Food, Cooking, and Restaurants | | Author | Message | 07/31/2014 13:14 Subject: left shredded cheese out overnight - throw away? | Anonymous | Got home from the grocery about 8 last night, and the large bag of shredded taco cheese didn't make it into the fridge. I found it about 9 this morning on the kitchen counter. Throw away? | | | 07/31/2014 13:19 Subject: left shredded cheese out overnight - throw away? | Anonymous | Was it left open or closed? If there's no mold, and it hasn't dried out, then it's fine. The whole point of cheese is to preserve food, before we had refrigerators. | | | 07/31/2014 13:21 Subject: Re:left shredded cheese out overnight - throw away? | Anonymous | As long as it tastes ok, I don't see why you should throw it out. | | | 07/31/2014 13:23 Subject: left shredded cheese out overnight - throw away? | Anonymous | Anonymous wrote:Was it left open or closed? I didn't know this! | | | 07/31/2014 13:28 Subject: left shredded cheese out overnight - throw away? | Anonymous | Op here, it was still sealed. Thank you! | | | 07/31/2014 15:49 Subject: left shredded cheese out overnight - throw away? | Anonymous | I would toss it. Cheese should be kept refrigerated. | | | 07/31/2014 16:01 Subject: left shredded cheese out overnight - throw away? | Anonymous | Anonymous wrote:I would toss it. Cheese should be kept refrigerated. No, WRONG. Leaving cheeses unrefrigerated for long periods of time will dry them out and cause a thin layer of oil to separate from and coat the cheese. It will also rapidly accelerate their shelf life. But it doesn't have to be. You know nothing about cheese, clearly. | | | 07/31/2014 16:04 Subject: Re:left shredded cheese out overnight - throw away? | Anonymous | People eat left out pizza all the time. I wouldn't feed to my kid, it's probably fine to eat for sure | | | 07/31/2014 19:23 Subject: left shredded cheese out overnight - throw away? | Anonymous | Is it processed, shredded cheese? Toss it | | | 07/31/2014 20:19 Subject: left shredded cheese out overnight - throw away? | Anonymous | I'd keep it if it is natural cheese. People have eaten cheese for centuries without benefit of refrigeration. On the counter in an air conditioned home for one night in its packaging is perfectly fine. | | | 07/31/2014 20:52 Subject: left shredded cheese out overnight - throw away? | Anonymous | It's fine. | | | 07/31/2014 20:58 Subject: left shredded cheese out overnight - throw away? | Anonymous | Please don't throw it away. If you do- total waste. | | | 07/31/2014 21:03 Subject: left shredded cheese out overnight - throw away? | Anonymous | It's perfectly fine. Dry and tasteless, but perfectly fine. | | | 07/31/2014 21:30 Subject: Re:left shredded cheese out overnight - throw away? | Anonymous | Live on the wild side--eat it. | | | 07/31/2014 21:52 Subject: Re:left shredded cheese out overnight - throw away? | Anonymous | Anonymous wrote:Live on the wild side--eat it. An unopened bag? I would definitely keep. Heck, I forgot to put some store-bought pesto in the fridge (still sealed) and didn't find it till the next day. We still ate it and we all lived to tell the tale. | | | | | Forum Index » Food, Cooking, and Restaurants | | | |
